NIH-Supported Data for Secondary Analysis

Investigators can access participant data from NIH-funded clinical trials and observational studies for secondary analysis.

  • NIH institutes maintain repositories that store health and human data collected by NIH-supported projects. These repositories provide easier access than individual project programs.

    Access Requirements:

    • Login.gov account linked to institutional email (free)

    • NHLBI – Cardiovascular studies (Framingham Heart Study, MESA, ARIC) via BioLINCC

    • NIDDK – Diabetes Prevention Program via NIDDK Central Repository

    • NEI – Access via NEI Data Commons

    • NCI – Access via Cancer Research Data Commons

    • NIAAA & NIMH – Access via NIMH Data Archive

  • Database of Genotypes and Phenotypes (dbGaP)

    dbGaP provides -omics data paired with clinical information to support systems biology research. Examples include:

    • Whole-genome sequencing

    • Metabolomics

    • Proteomics

    • Transcriptomics
