About Baylor Medicine Data

Baylor Medicine’s outpatient care database includes about 450,000 patients as of 2025. Data focuses on ambulatory visits and ancillary services, such as diagnosis codes, radiology procedures, and lab events.
Note: Inpatient data from Baylor-affiliated hospitals is not included. All data is identifiable. -
Baylor Medicine uses Epic for its EHR system, with data stored in two SQL-based databases:
Epic Clarity
Real-time EHR source
Normalized model with 20,000 tables
Granular data, minimal redundancy
Preferred for raw data access
Epic Caboodle
Built from Clarity using a dimensional model
500 tables organized by domains such as vital signs, encounters, diagnoses, medications, procedures, labs, and clinical reports

Explore Baylor Medicine data with Epic SlicerDicer via Epic Hyperspace or MyApps (Baylor credentials required). Provides summary statistics and limited trends; patient-level data is not available. Advanced analysis requires Clarity or Caboodle access.
About Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center (BSLMC) Data

Baylor College of Medicine co-owns Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, part of CommonSpirit Health. Identifiable EHR data includes hospitalized patients, outpatient visits, and specialty records from the Texas Heart Institute, Dan L Duncan Cancer Center, and transplant services.
Currently stored in Epic Clarity, with plans to add Caboodle. Linkage to Baylor Medicine records is available via a Research IT crosswalk file. -
Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center (BSLMC), co-owned by Baylor College of Medicine, provides identifiable EHR data for hospitalized patients, outpatient visits, and specialty care. Data is currently stored in Epic Clarity, with plans to add Caboodle.
Accessing Data
Researchers need Baylor credentials and IRB approval. Two options:

2. SHARE Enclave
Secure Citrix-based environment with SQL Server and RStudio
Requires SQL and R proficiency
