Other Academic Voices Series to Explore Systems Change Approaches for Complex Health Challenges
The Community and Stakeholder Engagement Program invites physicians, nurses, physician assistants, allied health professionals, community partners, patient advocates and community members to attend the next session in its Other Academic Voices series, "Addressing Complex Health Challenges Through Systems Change: Lessons on Approaches to Cross-Sector Research and Evaluation."
The virtual session will take place on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
This engaging discussion will examine how research and evaluation can support cross-sector collaborations aimed at improving population health and addressing social determinants of health. Participants will gain practical insights into the opportunities and challenges of conducting research across sectors and learn strategies for integrating community expertise into translational research efforts.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
Describe how research and evaluation can support cross-sector efforts to address social determinants of health and improve population health.
Discuss challenges, opportunities and lessons learned from designing and conducting evaluation and research studies across sectors and settings.
Identify strategies for incorporating community expertise and partnerships into the design and implementation of translational research.

Dr. Monique Gill, research scientist at the Center for Outcomes Research and Education (CORE).
Dr. Keri Vartanian, CORE director, who leads the development and implementation of the organization's vision and strategy.
About Other Academic Voices
The Other Academic Voices series helps researchers and clinicians address complex community issues by introducing innovative ideas and perspectives developed by or in partnership with communities. As a continuing medical education (CME) program, the series emphasizes collaboration, community engagement and partnership-driven approaches to health research and care.
CME Credit Available
The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) has reviewed the Other Academic Voices series and deemed it acceptable for AAFP credit from Sept. 1, 2026, through Aug. 31, 2027. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
This session is approved for 1 hour of online AAFP Prescribed credit.
